I have just brought a vitis vinifera brandt. Is it best planted outside? or in the greenhouse?

Hi Birchy,

It depends on what you want the plant to do. It is perfectly garden hardy & certainly doesn't need greenhouse protection to grow well. Outdoors it will also display spectacular autumn colour in a good year, and many people grow it primarily for this feature.

Brandt is also a good fruiting Vitis, however, so if you have bought it for that reason then it would definitely produce a far better crop (or more specifically the fruit will be able to ripen far better) when grown under glass.

How do I say thanks?
