Hi Faddymaddy and welcome to GoY. Which particular jasmine was it? Some are hardy others aren't.

I don't know what variety of Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides, the Star Jasmine perhaps) you have but I would have thought that for some aspects, then it might not have been too hardy if exposed to frosts. If, however it was sold as a hardy shrub then many reputable garden centres offer a 3 or even 5 year hardy plant guarantee and if you have the receipt or their own printed label, I would take it back and see what they say.

There is always a chance but I wonder if it hadn't been acclimatised to outside conditions at the growers/garden centre.
As already said it depends on which one you have.
welcome to GoY from me too.

It might have been Jasminum polyanthum, especially if it was already in flower, and that one is only frost hardy in the UK. Plus, if you wanted to plant it outdoors, it would have needed a sunny, south facing wall behind it to give it a chance of survival, and it would have needed hardening off for a week or two prior to planting outdoors. The hardening off procedure would likely have been necessary for any jasmine if it was already in flower and was under shelter or inside when it was purchased, even a hardy one. And because the weather's been dry, it would have needed watering with 5 litres or so every 3 or 4 days, depending what part of the country you're in.
