Seed Viability! For how long do vegetable seeds remain viable? Are last year's seeds still good to plant? Thanks

If you've stored them somewhere cool and dry the seed 'should' still be viable though you may find that not all of the seed germinates. When we grew veg. we would regularly keep seed for more than one year and it was, normally, fine.

You're welcome Hank. You can never go wrong with red potatoes -they are so delicious. I'm glad it worked out for you. They also went well with my roast pork on Sunday.. Yum!
Thanks Mg. Would be a shame to through out good seeds.

All the above seeds, if kept as Moongrower says, will last a few years. Parsnips however will not. I used to have a list of Veg seeds and their viability, but for the life of me I cannot find it now. We have enough seeds left over from last year not to need to buy any this season.

The advice I was given by an elderly allotment gardener when I first started was ' Hard Seed 4 years '
'Soft seed one year.'

Maybe this website will help you http://www.realseeds.co.uk/seedlife.html
There is a link there to a site telling you how to save your own seed too.

Haven't a clue about your question B, but would like to thank you for your tip about the small red potatoes you gave me - they worked a treat in my curry.
