Is this mildew please on my lupins, I deadheaded them a few weeks ago and they were fine but now all the leaves have a whitish substance on them. (Sorry about the fly that has tried to get in on the act)

It dosen't look like mildew to me. Did you fertilize it? It looks like salt- splash up from the ground maybe. It should rinse off with water. The leaves look otherwise healthy.

I think it is mildew. I've seen a recipe given on here of 1 part milk (not skimmed) to 9 parts water sprayed on the plants. I've just sprayed a clematis which had it on the stems but it hasn't spread to the leaves since I did it. Thanks to whoever put the recipe on here.

I did, Cammomile, but its not my recipe, its just off the horticultural sites on the web...

Looks like powdery mildew to me too - you can either spray with a fungicide or use the milk treatment, but it doesn't matter if its skimmed, semi skimmed or full fat, so long as its cow's milk. Actually I prefer skimmed - should the sun ever come out and it gets hot, there's less likely to be the rank odour of off milk on your plants. Not that hot sun is likely to be a problem for the foreseeable future...

I'm assuming the plant can't be too dry, but dryness at the root can increase powdery mildew symptoms.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the milk recipe tomorrow.

Thanks Bamboo, and don't forget to empty the spray bottle or you will have yoghurt in it - like I did!!!

The milk recipe works, but if you don't like the stink (it's horrible, even using skimmed milk) try this from Green Gardener:

Rosierose, that link leads to a greengardener weedkiller...?
I can't say I've noticed a smell afterwards on my balcony, but then I've only ever had to use it on a few Verbena bonariensis.

Oh, Cammomile, you made me laugh - I haven't made that mistake, its straight down the sink and a thorough rinse and left to dry for the sprayer. At least its harmless so you can use the sprayer for other things if you want afterwards.

PM Mildew and Botrytis Spray is at the top of the page, so should be the first thing you see...? The weedkiller is further down that page.

Nope - but this time I scrolled down and its about the fifth or sixth item on the page...

How odd. It's the first product on the page for me.

Are you using a mobile device? I use a laptop, so maybe that's the reason for the different views.

I'm using a Google Pixel, a tablet with a keyboard, so a cross between a laptop and tablet. Its an Android device, like my phone, but it isn't actually a phone. Not sure why the link should look different this end though, I might try it on the Windows PC later just to see if it works differently then....

How do I say thanks?
