Pruning advice,please?
Asked on 10 Dec, 2007
This question is on Enkianthus perulatus
I inherited a neglected Enkianthus some months ago that flowered up nicely. Unfortunately, the flowers and leaves were all up top, so it was quite bear over 70% of its height. When and how do I prune, please? It's presently about four feet high.

In general, enkianthus should not need any pruning except the possible removal of badly placed branches in late winter or early spring while still dormant.
Overgrown specimens break freely by cutting down hard at the same time although you will lose one or seasons of flower. I would also give it a healthy feed at the same time as encouragement
