Can anyone tell me what type of tree this is and how large it will grow?

I will give you a tentative answer that it is a beech tree. If it is it will top out at about 80 to 100 feet. No matter what kind of tree it is by what I see in the picture, it is in the wrong place. There is no room for it there.

No, not beech, the leaf ends are too pointed.

I would suggest one of the hazel trees.

Maybe Hornbeam?
Whatever it is, as Loosestrife has already said, it is in the wrong place. Too close to the fence - as soon as it reaches 7ft in height it will be overhanging the fence and will be the source of disputes with your neighbours.

It's my fence so there are no concerns about that as it is placed beside my drive. I will lift it up and move it as I was given this as a gift and never sure what type of tree it was.

Ahh I have just found out it could be a Double Flowering Cherry-Almond Tree. Would this be too large for its current place?

And any reconsiderations on a small tree that may be more suitable? Sorry for all the questions.

It's a cherry of some sort, certainly. Yes, too large for the situation.

Its impossible to tell from the picture how deep the border is from front to back - as its next to your drive, which I'm assuming is paved or tarmacked, its likely quite a narrow space. I was going to suggest Prunus amanogawa, but the trouble with any cherry tree is they produce a lot of surface roots, which will likely eventually go on to disrupt whatever hard surface you have on your driveway.

Knowing the size of the space and whether it gets much sun or not would mean suitable recommendations could be made...

A tip - whenever you plant a young tree think about the shape of a mature tree - even a small tree will have quite long branches no matter what kind it is.. If you look at the distance from your fence it will then be obvious that soon any new branches would soon collide with it. The only tree that you could grow so near to a fence would probably be one of the tall thin conifers such as skyrocket but that would loook a bit odd there.

Could you show a photo taken from further back so we can see the whole border in relation to the drive and the fence please?
