I have a small pond which is close to a wooden fence about 2feet away. I want to plant something that will cover up the fence about 5feet high and is evergreen. Any thoughts

Not sure it would be a good idea to put a climber on the fence - that kind of fencing is fairly short lived unfortunately. You could try training a pyracantha flat against the fence though. Depending on which part of the UK you live in and how harsh the winter is they are often evergreen.
