Which manure for a new garden to plant as soon as possible, Oxfordshire

United Kingdom Gb

Manure for new garden, clay substrate, for general plants, herbs and some friuts and vegetables. How soon can we plant after application of manure ?

You need any humus rich material, and if you use something like horse manure, it should be well composted with straw for 1-2 years before use. Otherwise, soil conditioning compost from the garden centre, or your local recycling centre, spent mushroom compost, leaf mould, seaweed, anything you can get hold of. Re the veggies, I'm not a veggie person but I think some veggies don't like manured soil, so you'd need to check that, but you can plant more or less immediately after digging the compost in. You wouldn't be able to if you used fresh manure.

Bamboo is correct carrots and parsnips do not like manured soil they need a light sandy soil so you will have difficulty growing where you live. The way round this could be to grow them in raised beds the soil needs to be as fine as possible so that the roots can grow down into it.
