Depends on the variety, but in general we pick ours when green around the size of a cricket ball... would that be about a baseball size over there?
We normally allow ours to ripen to red, yellow or whatever and pick them then, as once they change colour they won't get any bigger anyway.
Some varieties have huge fruit which grow to the size of a small melon.
