Hi - I was given some seeds, and told they were black tomaotes - they look a bit odd, there is a fruit growing inside a thin papery lantern type housing. The plants are quite tall (about 5 ft). Please see the attached photo.

They certainly are not tomatoes. I know what they are but my mind has gone totally blank.

Hi Manda,
Although Physalis aren't tomatoes they are actually very close relatives in the Nightshade family, and are edible too.
