Red thread is a fungus known as Laetisaria fuciformis and if you have this in your lawn is signals poor health and lack of nutrients
Suggest slight N2 feeds at the moment and get into a good weeds and feed programme for the autumn. Fugicicide can be used but I am not sure if these are available for the hobby market Check you local GC

Hi Cookie, now I know about red thread too. You just go to your local hardware store or garden centre and ask for a remedy for it. Yes, gardeners can buy fungicide, but ask them which one to use and follow directions exactly.
