We have just built a pergola in our garden in France and wish to train plants up it such as climbing roses, clematis, vines and wisteria, can you grow wisteria and clematis together as wisteria have a short flowering season and the clematis could follow on. Thanks Marilyn Markham

I've a pergola in the middle of the flower garden with a wisteria growing over the top, and a clematis on the side trellis.
The only problem I can see is that the wisteria is very vigorous and will tend to take over, shading the clematis during the main summer period, but there's no reason you can't clip it back to allow light to get to the clematis.
