seeking an aromatic plant that can be grown off balcony railings- trailing downwards- Heard there is a prostrate lavendar - but can not find it anywhere.

Never heard of that. There are prostrate Rosmaries though.
Any more info such as container size, aspect etc? Remember that planting in containers is much more labor intensive than planting in the ground.
How long do you go on holiday? Do you have a person you can trust to water etc....
ps Lavenders are not that long lived anyway and seriously.....a prostrate form would not work!
