I have a crinodendron shrub which is looking fabulous this year. However, it need pruning quite drastically as grown over a pathway. When is the best time?

ah, well, not actually in my garden, Franscesca, but in a client's garden - I do have to cut back the front of it usually, but shall wait till the red flowers have faded a bit.
