Generally, when I am trimming a hedge every so often I stand back to get a wider view to make sure I am getting the shape I want and to avoid getting the hedge lopsided. I use electric hedge trimmers. I used the plural on trimmer because I have a habit of doubling back too quickly an nipping the electrical cord.

I had the same problem. I was sick of having to re-wire it after cutting through the cable. The cable eventually ended up too short so I bought a cordless trimmer.
