what is this prickly plant!!!!!

Hi, help, could anyone put a name to this plant that holds it`s own in our garden. It`s prickly and lives on it`s own because of this.

Thanks Andrew brill, it is an Echium, Echium Onosmaefolium it`s good to put a name to a plant thanks again.
