Please has anyone grown Centranthus (Valerian) from seed? My book says it takes months to germinate, but the seed packet says up to 21 days. Can I sow some now?

I have Red Valerian that appeared from nowhere so I'm assuming the birds dropped off a seed or one blew in on the wind. What started as one plant is now many, after a couple of years so they seem to be self seeding now.
My new ones are about 50cm tall at the moment so their growing season must have started a few months ago. I'm new to gardening though so don't know anything about sowing times.
Hope you get some lovely plants if you decide to sow. :)

Thanks for answering - I have two packets of seeds, so I might try sowing some now and some later! ;-)

Spritz, I have not tried growing from seed but I have a lot growing in the garden and it seeds itself once you have a plant or it does for me.
