I have 5 young apple trees and 1 young plum tree and I have been told to get pheromone traps. Is it one trap per tree or will 1 or 2 do the job?

Depends on which insects you want to deter - plum moth presumably on the plum, but apples are prey to codling moth and totrix moth, and they're different traps.
