If they are early potatoes end of June beginning of July - scraped the soil away from the side of the ridge near a potato top and if the potatoes are a reasonable size they are ready. Early potatoes are not as large as main crop ones.
Many crop potatoes are harvested August to September time after flowering and when the tops have started to die back.
