i have growing out of a Cotoneaster stand tree, an oak branch it is now 50cm long, would this damage de Cotoneaster?

I'm confused - are you saying you have a standard Cotoneaster, and that an oak branch is growing from this Cotoneaster, somewhere or other? If you are, are you certain it is oak, are you certain the oak branch isn't coming from the soil beneath, where is the base of this branch in relation to the Cotoneaster - on the topgrowth, half way down the standard stem?
