Why can't I grow alliums? They always come up, but begin to die back when leaves are about 7/8 inches long.

And in any case in the majority of decorative Alliums the leaves begin to die off as the flower spike develops.

Which alliums are you speaking of, and where are you trying to get them to grow in terms of pot or garden, sun or no sun, damp soil, dry soil...
