Can anyone identify this plant?
I rescued it from growing over concrete before I kill all the brambles, but don't know where is the best place to replant it. I think its a shade lover and was more upright before I 'saved' it

If it is acanthus you can grow these from root cuttings. Look it up if you have never done it before, it is really simple and you can also do it with oriental poppies.

The stems look very smooth for acanthus. Why not wait until it is upright again and then post another photo of it. If you crush a leaf does it have a celery smell. If so it could be lovage.

Thankyou but I think lovage has prickly stems!
great idea to try root cuttings. will have to look it up.

No Sandygirl lovage has smooth stems. The reason I asked if it has a celery smell is that lovage is a herb used in soups etc in place of celery and you can use the leaves in salads. If you want to take root cuttings as Trees says it is very easy and best done in the winter. Unearth a bit of root. Cut it in inch long pieces and put it in compost in a cool greenhouse or cold frame.

Don't think this looks like lovage, unless there are several varieties.

Leaves look a bit like a very gangly Acanthus.
Hopefully some one will identify it for you.
