We had a 10 ft solanum and trimmed it right back to the ground. It was really woody and snapped as if dead. Will it come back

my father cut his right back one year and now its nearly as tall as it was before!! I would leave it and give it a chance at coming back.

They do get woody and brittle when I cut this out it always recovers
