Welsh Poppies
Welsh Poppies
Asked on 30 Jun, 2008
Although I read that these are annuals, mine have been coming up in clumps for c.5 years. The oldest clump has developed very discoloured leaves. Has it come to the end of its life? Should I dig it up?

Thankyou Buzzbee
You've answered my query. I supected that it needed replacing and like you, I've got some self-seeded ones. This was such a big established plant that I was hoping to keep it. I love the self-seeders and have all sorts now.

The yellow Welsh poppy is actually Meconopsis cambrica which is a perennial. Ours seem to self seed freely, so always have replacements for when one gives up the ghost. In fact, some people don't like them because they can self-seed so freely.
