currants

Asked on 29 Jun, 2008

3 years ago I inherited an allotment with some black and red currant bushes of indeterminate age. This year they look healthy but have no currants at all. Could they be too old to fruit or do they miss the odd year now and again?

Are they making any new growth? Blackcurrants are particularly heavy feeders - I feed mine in early srping and again after harvesting the fruit.

Yes! I cut them back last year and this year there's lots of very green healthy looking leaves but not a currant in sight. The last 3 years they've fruited although not very heavily and I've never fed them before. What should I feed them and (if they haven't fruited) when?
