Why have I got sticky leaves on my lemon tree

Asked from the GoYpedia citrus fruits page

Look under the leaves. If there are flat brown insects there you have scale insects and they are gradually killing the plant by sucking the sap. If so, you can remove the nasty things with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirit - a long job, but it works!
