The only plant with the common name "Japonica" is the Japanese Quince, Chaenomeles japonica. I am guessing that the plant you have is an evergreen with the species name (the second part of the scientific name) japonica?
Fatsia japonica, Pieris japonica, Skimmia japonica, Aucuba japonica, Eriobotrya japonica, any of these?
