you can do it one of two ways. the quickest, though not necessarily the best is to spray with a weedkiller like roundup. or you dig out every single bulb in the soil. this is kinder to the environment but takes a lot of time.
I spent 3 hours carefully removing an area of about 6ft x 8ft. I felt very virtuous afterwards.
