What's eating my roses?
Asked on 21 Jun, 2008
We're also getting some huge chomps out of some of our roses, what's doing that, and how do we stop it?

I'd agree with Bonkersbon - leaf cutter bee - may spoil the appearance a little but they shouldn't do your roses any harm. I understand they use the leaves for their nests. Personally I'd be thrilled to have them, but maybe I'm weird.

I had leaf-cutter bees - they built their little tubes of leaf in some plant pots where I had cuttings rooting. Gave me a bit of a fright when I tipped the contents of the pot out into my hand! Wasn't stung luckily! They are solitary bees and deposit individual cocoons around the place it seems.

Hi Connielarayne these large slices quite distinctive and my guess would be a leaf cutter bee is doing the damage.Bees are welcome visitors , so a method of controlling them is not available.Sorry not much help but there may be roses more resistant or a means of companion planting that will deter them.
