Oh dear, elderly father has set fire to and burn't wife's favourite 40 year old conifer to a crisp. Looks terrible. Daily reminder out of kitchen window. Wider family need a solution to resolve 'u know what' atmosphere. Cut off or dig out or replacement plant suggestion? Help!

You need to remove the whole tree taking out all the roots, replace the soil, add well rotted manure and replace the tree with a small one of the same variety.
