Gunnera is extremely easy to divide. Just take some sideshoots from the main plant once it is well into growth in late spring. Pot these up into large pots and keep them in pots until they have rooted well and are ready to plant out. You would have to dig really deeply to remove the five year old plant, but the offsets will root well and should give you lots of plants.
