Some of my aubergines are not turning purple they are grainy with yellowly streaks. Can they be eaten?

I'm intrigued as to what variety of aubergine you are growing. The aubergines we grow here are purple from the moment they are formed, they just get bigger. Do you know the name of the variety?
To me it sounds like yours have some kind of virus or bacterial disease.. if you mean the yellowy brown type of streaks.
I'd avoid eating them.
