if they are metal that I'd use paint designed for railings [wrought iron type eg hammerite] if made of wood then I would use the shed/fence paint. The come in a range of coulurs. Or if a quality hard wood like teak then you can oil them with a proper wood oil eg teak oil or use Yatch varnish.
