Hi, if you're growing them for the show benches then cut them off, but then you will have to tie the stems in as the plant uses them to support itself as it climbs, if you're not growing for show, leave them on, it will make no difference to the rate of growth, Derek.

I always cut mine off, if I dont they wrap around emerging flowers and strangle them also they dont look good, so I just leave the odd one to cling on the supports.

I leave mine on as they help them climb, but as said before they can twine round other flowers.

I wish to thank all those who answered my question re sweet peas. I do not propose to enter shows with them so might just snip the tendrils off so they look a bit tidier. I tie all the stems in as they grow anyway. What would I do without this helpful site - thanks.
