1st looks like a birch seedling.
2nd looks like a basic willow; goats willow or crack willow.

I have this sort of thing sprouting all around my garden. I try to pull them out while they are still small...otherwse it´s a hard job to get them out...the roots go very deep.

Top is certainly birch, we have grown some lovely trees by potting up self setters,
Not suitable for small gardens though......

I wondered if the second one could possibly be a buddleja?

Birch & Buddleja was my immediate thought.

Not sure about buddleja.. Could it be a plum seedling?

Definitely birch and pussy willow/goat willow

Howee - you could always keep them in their pots and turn them into bonsai . . . easy, and great fun!

Thats a great idea, how do i do that?

Thanks! Just prune to a shape you like, make sure they're in gritty well-drained compost, and prune the roots to balance the top growth (which you needn't do more than once a year).

I love the fact that you're in close contact with the tree, and each year the leaves emerge smaller than before. No wiring is necessary and I don't do anything 'tricky', but find it rewarding. For the first time ever, I had a flower on one of mine this year (Magnolia 'stellata'): tiny, but so exciting :))

So you actually dig it out, trim the roots and re plant it?

Yes, if I'm digging a tree seedling up from the garden. You could leave yours in their current pots, or re-pot them into shallower pots whenever you're ready.

How do I say thanks?
