I AM NEW TO THE SITE. LIVE IN SOUTHERN CA. BUT IN DESERT REGION NORTH OF PALM SPRINGS. IS THERE ANY WAY OF GETTING 'WITH' OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE HOT, DRY SUMMERS AND THE ..OCCASIONALLY BELOW FREEZING WINTERS? I LOST 2 PLANTS, AND AM NURSING 3 OTHERS ALONG. BEING FROM THE EAST COAST, I AM ALWAYS WONDERING A LOT ABOUT DESERT GARDENING!

Hi seaburngirl,
To be honest and having family in the states i would say you would really be better off trying to get a site nearer your own state,
the reason i say this is because your area'a are desert and the people of the uk who have never been or seen this sort of land wouldnt understand both the lack of soil as we know it and the extreme heat you have all summer,
So its hard for us to give you good information as to what to do for the best.
I do know of a site in the states that will be of much better understanding of your needs so i'll dig it out and send it to you via "e" mail,
regards dungy,
ps let us know if you recieve the "e"mail information.

Put "Tugbrethil profile" into the white search box top right hand side
He lives in Arizona and is very knowledgeable
There is a 'send a private message" button so you could contact him direct.

Hello, Bbgirl!
I can probably help you with the heat and drought, but I have never had to deal with very much snow. I don't get online as often as I would like, but I would be happy to help with any questions that you may have. We desert gardeners need to help each other!!

No problem, Pamg! Seaburngirl, here is a nice place to visit fall through spring, but you have to be really tough--and/or crazy, and/or poor--to stay here through the summer!
