Acuba are good as are the true laurels. both will fit the bill. I think Acuba is faster growing than the laurels.

I would suggest a Beech hedge. Much more rewarding.
OK, not so fast growing, but instant pleasure (if planted in sufficient quantity) and a good support for a few clematis et al.

They are very reasonable when bought in bulk orders, the more you buy the less you pay for individual plants...

I would grow the Portuguese laurel, Prunus lusitanica, or Elaeagnus x ebbingei. Both evergreen and robust. If a more formal hedge is required Taxus baccata, the common Yew will make a wonderful job although the foliage is poisonous.

Please can I but in? Fractal, what sort of clematis, and what happens when you want to prune them?
