Magnolia Stellata
Following last years flowers, seed pods appeared they are red/orange in colour my question is can new plants be propogated from seed,if so,will they be true to type

don't know but mine did the same and I removed the fleshy orange from the seed and planted them in pots in a cold greenhouse-- I understand that they can be slow to germinate so watch this space... but don't hold your breath!

Yes you may grow Magnlias from seed, takes a while but it is possible. I have 1 M. kobold seedling which is about 1 foot tall at present. You need to soak the seeds in warm water with liquid soap in it overnight before sowing in seed compost and leaving exposed to the weather. Watch out for mice, they love the seeds.

Thease types of seeds can take up to a couple of years to germinate so don't give up on them too soon. Try slightly different methods too. Put some outdoors and some in a cold frame (in pots) Water with rainwater if possible.
