cats in the garden

Sorry Tevor there is no real solution... getting your own cat might help though!

I am sorry Trevor but cats have a will of their own and will go where they wish. If they are damaging your plants then put orange peel around them, they hate it.

our local rspca group suggested using a childs spud gun as an alternative to a water pistol. and there are no ' legal laws' regarding the rights of a cat. They just do their own thing.

I pint don't leave bare earth... any cat views it as a toilet. Cover with mesh or twigs or just about anything.

the cats were I live never knew loose soil untill I came, so just carrie on doing there busness on the lawrn's, I think every one hear ownes at least one cat, except myself, and belive me cats rule, they are the most spoiled mogies I have ever known, and when I cut the lawrns I usualy get my shues coverd in it, but I have no desire to upset my nabours, so I put up with it.

I have a cat of my own. She chases all the other cats away, so I get hardly any bother from them.

Same for us except we have two of them

I have a cat and it does its business in my garden, it is thick!! When I covered my beds with chicken wire, then covered with bark chippings it couldn't dig the garden and it started to s**t in my ginger lillies, which were in pots!! I have even caught it in my greenhouse poising over 9cm pots. I spray it with the hose, as close up as I can!!
I did find that the chicken wire over the exposed soil, then covered with bark chippings was the best deterrant for my beds and plants can still grow through it.
Unfortunately this is an age old problem and until cats become extinct we are stuck with the problem. Heavily planted gardens so there is no exposed soil is the best, but as I said my wretched animal finds the soil in my pots!

Well they have to go somewhere just like us. If someone covered up our toilets and shot water at us we would still have to go somewhere. So it is with with cats.

True Hywel... and you should see our wee patio at the moment the trodden down snow is covered with bird poop where we've been ground feeding birds that can't use the feeders. Mr MB will be scrubbing the patio furniture which is also pooped all over! We 'still' have 8 inches of snow here folks and no sign of a real let up - though it is sunny right now :-)

You sound like you don't like cats Andrea ;-)

Andrea maybe you should find another home for your cat.

I like all animals but I'm not going to get into an argument with any of you, I do love our cat Jasmine - maybe some of you should practice a sense of humour for a new years resolution, I'm out of here!!

Maybe you should convey that in your comments Andrea

funnily I assumed andrea's comments were very tongue in cheek as she has a cat as her avitar.
1 Jan, 2010
Well I didn't. Her comments sound nasty to me. She has only just changed the avatar I believe

oh! I assumed the quip about her cat being thick was the fact it goes in her garden not the neighbours. Our neighbours 5 cats started using our garden but they skirt around us most of the time now :o)
I can see why they could be misinterpreted though.
To change the subject a little have you much snow over there Hywel? we have another dusting here.

We had some this evening. The first time this year. I hope we have a nice spring :o)

spring is always nice once the snowdrops start to hang their heads I know its well on its way.

Yes, cats are very badly behaved in this respect. Society now makes owners clear up dog mess - fair enough. If I knew where our Mog soils, believe me I'd be in there with a poop bag to clear it up. Some poor souls out there are probably cursing, but not much we can do, he won't use a tray...
Trevor, search on this site for the best tips, as this q's been asked loads of times. Water pistolling is quite fun I would think?

I am pleased you have this attitude about your cat, weeding. sadly my neighbour gets up set when i pop the cat poo over the fence back onto her beds. she got cats 'coz you dont have to clean up after them' ! her hubby agrees with us so that is at least something.

I can't believe you have taken me seriously Hywel. Someone suggested a spud gun before me and they haven't even got a tut from you! Never mind the bile which has been directed at me
I wasn't being nasty, I was as Seaburngirl said, being tongue in cheek!!
As usual on this site some poor sods (trevor, this is not meant personally) question has been turned into a mud flinging exercise between members. If you want to say something to me, do it by PM!! And keep it off the site

Andrea I think one of the problems is that telling 'jokes' or 'joking' on a site like this does not always come over... If you are talking to someone you can tell by the words they use and the facial expressions that they are not serious. All we have here is the written word; I have to say I too misunderstood your post to start with...
The spud gun was a serious suggestion and taken as such, by the way it was SBG's local RSPCA who suggested to her.
Oh and I trust that cats never become extinct because humanity will be long gone...

FFS, all I did was call my cat thick, anyone would think I'd threatened to boil it in oil!

thanks for all serious answers, but I did not like the catty comments amongst members
