I agree though a lovely salmon-pink one I had for a few years suddenly died. It was in a perfect spot too. I just put it down to a bacterial infection, possibly getting in through damage? I guess I was just unlucky though.

Not really Sid, just guessing why mine succumbed. Rosaceae tend to have a back catalogue of pests and diseases though Chaenomeles are usually not prone to much.
