Cordyline Australis

I have a plant in my garden which I think from looking at photos online is a Cordyline Australis? Its about 6 ft high and was planted by a gardener about 2 years ago when it was around 4 ft high. It has long green thin leaves which turn yellow and die off as it grows taller.

Can you please advise how tall this plant is likely to grow? I don't want it to grow much higher than 8 ft. What should I do when cutting it back at that height?

There are also a number of new shoots which have started growing from the base of the plant. Is this normal and should I leave them or should these be cut back?

if it is the plant you think it will grow quite tall it is a palm tree after all.and as it grows from the top with new leaves you my kill it off if you cut the top back, i have one and its just split into two branches from the top that is two sets of leaves coming from the one stem .mine is about 8ft tall but a neighbour has one about 4 mtrs tall and still growing

Bamboo

You can cut the main stem right down to the babies at the bottom if you like, in the spring, but then you'll have lots of tufty plantlets which may or may not form separate stems and grow upwards, eventually.
