Cross Pollination, but what????

Asked by Rebley on 15 May, 2008

This plant started growing wild, we had a garden last year that produced Watermelon, yellow crooked neck squash, and zuchinni. From what I've read watermelon and squash can't cross pollinate, so what is this? The plant is clearly squash, the fruit looks like a watermelon, and is sending out shoots like mad. I took one and cut it open and it looks like a squah variety on the inside. I've never planted pumpkins, so I'm clueless as to what this is.

Looks like a type of 8 ball squash - a summer squash. Very strange if you didn't grow it last year....

I did not grow eight ball squash last year, I have never even heard of it. We are novice gardeners and only planted the things I listed. The funny thing is, is that there are two or three of these plants growing in our garden. I would really like to know what it is. It's just plain weird.
