Roses and black spot are like bread and butter. Black spot "tends" to occur most in areas of good air quality.. Try to cultivate resistant varieties. Also RoseClear3 is the best for most rose ailments, (it will also see off your white fly).

I grow a select group of my favourite roses that I've discovered 'work best for me' giving few problems - 'cause when a plant is more trouble than it's worth - that's nature saying it's time to move on...

Roseclear 3 is my favourite too, most effective. This rose, though, looks like it needs a decent pruning, which would help the disease situation!

Also make sure your friend clears up all the fallen debris (old leaves etc) from underneath the plant as the disease will stay.
