strange soil deposits

Asked on 3 Oct, 2008 3 replies

I have dark brown to black circular soil deposits around my garden and I don't know what is causing them. They look a bit like the spirals that sand worms make on the beach. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Sweet Peas

Asked on 2 Oct, 2008 2 replies

I was given a sweet pea this year in May, repotted it in a nice big pot. It's sent out lots of trailers but no flowers at all! It was looking a bit sick when I got it - any idea why it wouldn't flower? It only gets full sun for a couple of hours a day

Another puzzle

Another puzzle

Asked on 2 Oct, 2008 3 replies

Another one I found that was buried in the jungle. I have an idea it might be a skunk cabbage, but haven't seen it flower yet and looking it up on the net the leaves seem less vertical than the pictures. However, I'm sure the plant is distinctive enough for someone to idetify it for me. Regards Bernard

colchicum bulbs division & replanting

Asked on 2 Oct, 2008 2 replies

Hi there, We have been working on a large area and have had to dig up a large amount of colchicum bulbs whilst they are in flower. At the moment they are still in their clumps in a cool semi-dark place. Is it ok to seperate the clumps now and replant the bulbs when the area is again ready for them, in a few weeks time? I know its the wrong time to divide them but we had no choice. Please what is our best plan of action in this situation. There are around 200-300 bulbs so we really want to do the right hing for them. Many thanks Wendy

Have no idea what this is

Have no idea what this is

Asked on 1 Oct, 2008 1 reply

I have no idea what this plant is. I inherited it from my ex mother-in-law about 12 months ago. At the time the poor thing was in horrible soil and planted directly in a rusty, tin pail but after repotting it has taken off like crazy; I absolutely love the foliage. It has unruly, woody, tree-like stems with leaves which flag easily if I do not water at least once per week. It loves the sun and deeply reaches for bright light. I seem to remember her saying it was "supposed to flower and grow small orange-coloured fruit". Any ideas? Please advise if I should update the photo with a close-up or similar. Thanks and Best - James
