SCRAPYARD TRANSFORMED - GULLIVER'S GARDEN

Last Autumn, I posted a blog (A Gardener’s Scrapyard – Nov 10th) about a town-square garden in the fortified old-town area of Boulogne-sur-mer. The garden had been laid out to include a display of scrapped cars, through the roofs of which, trees were growing and whose boots had become ‘plant pots’.
Car seats had been utilised as park benches and steering wheels to create tables. Windscreens had been used to fashion a unique greenhouse. On re-visiting last week, we discovered that the area had been transformed into “Gulliver’s Garden”, with fruit, veg., trees and shrubs planted alongside Gulliver’s tools, garden accessories and giant vegetables.
I hope you will enjoy a selection of photos of this little visionary masterpiece.

The Town Hall (Hotel de Ville), across the garden. Note the red slugs on the wall.

Great pics - what a transformation since last time, such a lot of work, they must have plenty of gardeners. Must say, this has raised my opinion of the French generally - seems a good sense of humour and unconventionality must have created these gardens, two qualities always deserving of respect from me, lol!.

I've looked at the previous blog Bamboo. What a difference ! Think our Council Park staff could learn a lesson ! :~)

I read the last blog and can't believe the imagination and hard work that goes into these gardens. It's great to see veg used as part of a display like this.
Great photos again Ponty!

Thanks all. I really was not expecting a new garden this year. It is now very tempting to nip back in 2011 to see what they come up with next! As B8babe intimated, wouldn't it be a brighter Britain if our councils had this kind of imagination?

You'll have to make a yearly pilgrimage Ponty ! lol ;~)

Those are really fun aren't they - I'll bet the tourists just flock in to see them!!.
That aubergine is STUNNING!! What a fantastic transformation too....and why not plant tomatoes in among flowers - great pollination for a start!! I have an elderly friend in sheltered accommodation - no garden of her own to look after - so she sneaked a couple of bush tomatoes in between the dahlias and is enjoying the fruits - and so far the gardeners have turned a blind eye :~))

26 Jul, 2010

Can just imagine your friend sneaking about in the dahlias with a tomato plant under her arm ! lol

26 Jul, 2010

...aye - she did that - and now sneaks about picking lovely fresh toms. When nobody is looking - hopefully!!
