Pretty sure they'll grow in any soil Cinderella, this ones around 4 years old, really fast growing but you can cut back hard in the spring to keep them under control, can't grow acers here we're in a really windy spot on top of a hill so this is the next best thing :-)

Thanks Simbad. I am looking for ideas for a corner, where at the moment I have a huge conifer that has outgrown its space and it is coming down in the autumn, but I am going to miss the bit of shade that I get from it.
