Tobacco from The Windsor Castle

Tobacco from The Windsor Castle (Nicotiana sylvestris (Tobacco plant))

Turned over some soil in a pot last year about this time and about 10 seedlings sprung forth. we think they must have been dormant since 2004 ! Is that possible? Back then they grew in pots on our terrace (1st floor flat) after we stole the seeds from outside a local pub. Glad to have it back. Its a majestic (if smelly) plant.

5000 year old poppy seeds from ancient Egypt have supposedly germinated, so it could well be possible, although I personally wouldn't have thought that damp soil would be the ideal storage medium. However, it seems like too much of a coincedence, so as Mr. Spock would say... "it's the logical explanation"!
I always thought of Nicotiana as fragrant. Nice growing!

fragrant, very! but of tobacco, mmmmm. It has since thrown out flower heads from buds above the leaves and is not so gracefully falling over with the weight. Hope the frosts keep away from London till November.
