One of my biggest successes from seed.

It got to 77 F. today, and I'm thinking it's too hot. (Humidity was 91%)

That humidity will do it to you! My relatives in D.C. all laughed at me when I went to visit! All I could do is whine "but it's a dry heat at home!" while I sipped iced tea in their basement.

WOW!!! I have tried to grow pineapple lillies and have broken my own heart...what is your secret to success?

Try growing them in large pots, keep frost free over the winter, and in the spring put them in a warm place. They need warmth to get going. The ones in the picture, however, are in the ground because it rarely gets below 10 C.

Excellent!!! I have seen these flowers for the first time. I liked it very much. What is the ideal temperature to grow these?

It is a native of South Africa, if that helps. Or Zones 9 & 10 in the US. Or warm, but not real hot (although they may grow with afternoon shade).

Thanks for the info. That means they can grow at my place. I have to check these at my nearest nursery.

Mine were started from seed, and they weren't very fussy. So if you cann't find the bulbs, seeds are a good option. And for a bulb from seed, they were fast - only 3 years to start flowering.

My local garden center has the purple form in the greenhouse, but it's strictly a throw-away plant here--too hot in the summer!
