Just to warn all of you.
I received an email allegedly from the tax office saying I was due a tax rebate of a certain amount.
I clicked on the link and it wanted my bank details etc..so I was suspicious.
I phone the Inland Revenue and eventually after waiting for almost an hour, got through to them and told them..it was spam email.( which I had thought)
BEWARE all GOyers!
THey just try anything dont they!
It looked so official too!

thanks for this Pixie, the things they get up to is beyond me,, my daughter had a letter from China last week but posted in the UK, said her great grandfather had left her a lot of money when he passed away, she was not to mention anything to anyone and she was to hand over a vast amount of money before she got paid out, she put it through the shredder there and then, she should have taken it to the police but she was very cross at the time,

I mentioned on Goy the other day that I got two from the post office one said the parcel was to big to deliver and the other said I was out-- so I smelt a rat!, then we had one from American Airlines saying to open the attachment as it was my ticket to JFK the next day ( I wasn't going anywhere) The advice i've been given is that they can contain a virus-- DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS---

sorry Pam, my OH and me could not stop laughing at the JFK bit, thanks for your warning also.

it crossed my mind for one minute that it was a suprise from OH but then I realised he'd got a meeting that day !!!

the sheer nerve of these people, but some folks will pay out so they get a result and on to the next scam.

just shows pixi it was same amount you already had, so means people are checking your details, frightening really :o(, i would never fill anything out in an email because important things like that and banks etc wouldnt send you anything in an email, ever! good warning pixi

My son recently had a tax rebate. It came in the post in the form of a cheque. No e-mail, just a bog standard letter through the letterbox!

12 Dec, 2011

Thanks for the warning. It can be frightening to get this sort of thing. And some people might not suspect anything.

I had an e-mail earlier today, offering to pay an unclaimed estate into my bank account - something over £62 million pounds. Somehow, I thought this might be a fake!

12 Dec, 2011

lol andrew, shame it was , keep doing the lottery.

this email often does the rounds, in the last 5 yrs I have had it 6 times.

I also got the jfk email, but mine was from shanghi to jfk and money was talen fro my account. this was due to a company where a worker was using my legitimate purchase to clone my card. card is now cancelled and in the process of claiming it back.

sea thats awfull, glad its being sorted out though.
my uncle had his account emptied last year by the petrol station assistant, paind by card and apparently this lad had a device which coppied his detail, he then took all my uncles wages that had gone in that day, but he was caught thankfully.

Thanks for the warning Pixi. my Oh has had his card cloned twice in the past..& spent abroad..has had it refunded though..but annoying at the time..

I had a phone call one day, saying I'd won a month in the Bahamas, I just hung up. How can you win something you've never entered into??!!

12 Dec, 2011

thanks for all your comments..all of it is just shocking isnt it. nothing is safe

12 Dec, 2011

I very often get this type of e-mail or phone call as well. I just ignore them, but it is amazing how many people get taken for " a ride" and give their bank account details...particularly elderly people...BE AWARE!!!!!!.

13 Dec, 2011

As if they haven't anything better to do..........good for nothing 'plonkers'!!

13 Dec, 2011

Oh Seaburn thats awful.... plonkers is a polite way of putting it Lulu-- hope you're feeling better now Lulu...in time for the turkey!

13 Dec, 2011

Much better ta!

13 Dec, 2011

Just for your info...There's another 'scam' doing the rounds. It's from a mail-order company informing you that you owe them £5.00 and, unless you settle immediately, they will take legal action to recover the money...
£5 isn't much so they're counting on that, and the fear of baliffs, to scare (especially the elderly) people into paying up...DON'T

13 Dec, 2011

Thanks for warning

When I worked in the computer industry many year ago, we had a saying:
"If it doesn't work, hit it with a bigger hammer!"

16 Dec, 2011

Seems to work Andrew! lol

Before you take pc back to the shop just do a disc clean up and also defragment the files. If your Hard Drive to full it slows down your computer. Some Windows you can add a USB You can also do a restore to an earlier date. You can also get free virus software if you have TalkTalk as your ISP and if you have certain Barclays accounts you can get free software. If you are not to sure what wrong just ask before you pay out, I'm sure one of us can put you right

Some of today's Windows offer you the choice of using a USB Flash drive to speed up and improve your PC.
Have pasted details here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-vista/Using-memory-in-your-storage-device-to-speed-up-your-computer

Please ask before you spend and don't use a sledge hammer on the computer. Remember to update the important updates from Windows
