It looks like mine, which is Escallonia 'Crimson Spire'.
You can prune it hard if you want to, they're tough !
I grow mine as a boundary hedge, at the moment it's in full flower and there are hundreds of bees in it.
You can here the whole hedge hum !!!

Yes it is ... I have just bought a small one , I like the flowers .. I have seen them trimmed into hedges .....
